Robertsons Benriach 23yo IPA 48.2% abv
This Benriach was bottled to celebrate 70 years of the International Police Association and was carefully selected and presented to the Association for approval prior to bottling.
The whisky slept for 23 years in a refill Bourbon Hogshead. The spirit gently accepting the flavours imparted by the wood, right up to the point of bottling. During the time it spent in the cask the ABV% slowly lowered until it reached 48.2%. Bottled at this natural cask strength, the whisky is also natural colour, non-chill filtered and from a single cask. Making this as pure as whisky can ever be.
The Benriach Distillery was founded in 1898 by John Duff. Although in Speyside, this cask was described as Highland, as is the case with some Speyside distilleries. It was operational for 2 years before the ‘Pattison Cash’ in 1900 resulted in hardship for the whisky industry in Scotland. It remained closed until 1965 when it was reopened by Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. The distillery was mothballed in 2002 until an independent consortium led by Billy Walker purchased it. In March 2015 The Benriach Distillery Company was named Global Distiller of the year. The distillery was sold to Brown-Forman in June 2016.
