Robertsons Allt Dour, named after the stream that supplies the distillery, was released in March 2020. As is the case with some contracts when buying casks, I’m not allowed to name the distillery on the label, but a little research will give you the answer.
I’m delighted to say that this particular bottling has won us the title of ‘Scottish Field Magazine Independent Bottler of the Year 2020’.
The majority of previous Robertsons bottlings have been from ex bourbon casks. This has been the case primarily due to cask availability and also because I buy casks on an individual basis. If I like them I buy them. I don’t focus on particular regions, distilleries or finishes, but on the individual flavour characteristics of the cask. When selecting casks I will probably choose around 1 in every 10 casks that I taste.
From the instant that I tasted this whisky I thought it was exceptional. As with all the casks bottled under Robertsons name, this bottling is single cask, natural colour, non-chill filtered and was bottled a it’s natural cask strength of 59.2% abv. I’d be interested to read your review and tasting notes.
Tasting notes are very personal and subjective, but here is what I get:
Nose: Rich, fruit with spice. Hints of oak, caramel and raisins
Taste: Spicy, rich fruits, toffee and caramel. Rich mouth feel
Finish: Long, spicy and oily
If you decide to buy this bottling then thank you. I have no doubt that you will enjoy this delicious whisky.
